I'm curious as F***...

How was the mt palomar trip?
I couldn't go, but that doesn't make me love you less... or even less curious how it went!

I am leaving in the morning to fly to Reno...
picking up a truck and a motorbike...
then... taking that whole thing to Yosemite for two days...
the extended family and I are gonna be staying in the cabin-tents.

I don't say this to make you jealous... (I'm not sure you would really enjoy hanging with my family for the week)... but to just let you know I am trying to make up for my lost camping weekend...

I'll be thinking of you all...

camping together again soon...

August - Kern River at the Limestone campground

September - Mt Pinos shannon and brooks b-day

October - Grover Beach ....this will be house camping on or near the beach and Miss Cris' b-day

November - how about a cabin in big bear. I have access to a cabin for around 75.00 a night Desi's b-day

Mt Palomar Trip July

Our next trip will be to the fabulous Mt. Palomar Observatory. We will be invading the Fry Creek camp ground...as it is really small, I will need a head count asap so I can secure the right number of sites!!!

Camp details: grocery store nearby, pets on leashes ok! toilets and the usual or at least that is what the book says

trip notes: Elevation 5,200 ft..on a clear night we should be able to see forever, literally! We will be near the Palomar Observatory Home of the largest telescope in america!! It is described as a forested area with a stream near by!

Directions: Take the 15 south to the 76 east and drive about 20 miles to county road S6 (goes up to Palomar). Turn left ( north) and drive about 9 miles to the campground entrance on left.

I will plan on having the site from thursday to sunday please come anytime

post june trip/ pre july trip

Well we are back and re-adjusting to life in the big city. Our trip into the Angeles Crest was a great success, we had the whole camp ground to ourselves and boy was it sweet. hopefully photos will be posted to the flicker site soon.

We were visited by a herd of mule deer on our second night. We won't discuss about how I thought it was a bear and didn't let greg sleep for the rest of the night....hehehehehehe.

Tom, Cris, Noah and Desi did some treking on the Pacific Crest Trail. Pretty impressive, this trail runs from Mexico to Canada. Boy did they come back tired and hungry!!!!!

the topper for this trip was our fabulous Ranger J.R. and his dog chicknick...may they all be as cool as him.

Banana Pancakes

This will make enough for 2 to 3 people just eating pancakes, or 3 to 4 people when rounded out with sausages or something. I brought 3x this amount to Wheeler Springs.

Pre-Camping Prep
2 cups flour
4 tsp baking power
Couple tsps cinnamon
Pinch salt

Combine all ingredients and whisk until well-sifted and blended.

Morning Of
2 cups (soy/rice/cow, whatever) milk
1 tsp-or-so vanilla extract
(Bonus: I just used Vanilla Rice Milk, so I didn't have to bring anything extra)
2 ripe bananas

Preheat pan/skillet over the fire. Mash the bananas into a pudding-like consistency, add the pre-mixed dry ingredients and the milk, and stir until blended. Should be a runny consistency...add more milk if necessary. Grease the pan/skillet. When oil is hot, spoon out some batter (I generally eyeball about 1/2 cup's worth). When it develops bubbles over most of the surface, flip to cook the other side. Re-grease the pan every few pancakes (since there's no oil/fat in the batter, it can get pretty sticky).

New camp pics on Flickr!

Hey campers! I just updated our Flickr account and added pics from our last camp at Idyllwild. Can you believe that the last time we camped was July! I also posted some pics from our recent trip up to Big Sur. It was beautiful and I hope we get to do a group camp up there sometime. -Miss Chris
