Mt Palomar Trip July

Our next trip will be to the fabulous Mt. Palomar Observatory. We will be invading the Fry Creek camp ground...as it is really small, I will need a head count asap so I can secure the right number of sites!!!

Camp details: grocery store nearby, pets on leashes ok! toilets and the usual or at least that is what the book says

trip notes: Elevation 5,200 ft..on a clear night we should be able to see forever, literally! We will be near the Palomar Observatory Home of the largest telescope in america!! It is described as a forested area with a stream near by!

Directions: Take the 15 south to the 76 east and drive about 20 miles to county road S6 (goes up to Palomar). Turn left ( north) and drive about 9 miles to the campground entrance on left.

I will plan on having the site from thursday to sunday please come anytime

    From the Palomar Observatory Website:

The Palomar Observatory is open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily (except December 24 and 25) for self-guided visits to the 200-inch Telescope. The gallery in the 200-inch dome affords visitors a view of the Hale Telescope. Please note that the interior of the 200-inch dome is kept at nighttime temperatures (for an elevation of 5,500 feet!). Dress accordingly.

During most of the year the Observatory's gift shop is open only on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. It is open daily from mid June through Labor Day.
